The Review

I was waiting anxiously for 3 years, and then it finally came out! I could barely contain my excitement, but as I watched it, my smile started to fade, and disappointment came across. Without a shadow of a doubt, number one is a thousand times better. Although I wouldn't say it's all around bad, there are a couple parts of the film I enjoyed. The comedy is still there, so is the action. But it just lacked something, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Kick-Ass is by far one of the best films I have ever seen, but number two is nowhere near as good.

I can't fault the acting, nor the comedy and definitely not the action, but it lacks in something that Kick-Ass delivered brilliantly. Is it the storyline? The directing? I don't know, I just can't seem to figure it out. But nevertheless, I am still anxiously going to wait for Kick-Ass 3. Even though number two came across as a disappointment, number one is still insanely exhilarating, and everyone deserves a second chance don't they?

Kick-ass 2 is an action packed, thrilling and insanely fast-paced film. It's still good and worth the watch, but just don't get your hopes up like I did. You may just come out feeling a bit more disappointed than you initially thought you would.

This Is The End - A Huge Success

This Is The End

A movie review by Leah Delgado

Movie Info

During a big housewarming party thrown by James Franco, a heap of big stars engage in raucous antics. But suddenly an earthquake appears and blue beams start to take people up to heaven. James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson and Danny McBride hold up in Franco's house, eventually running out of food and water. They soon come to realise that they all need to do at least one good deed in order to go to heaven. A laugh-out-loud comedy horror, with an all star cast.

Cast

Also featuring Emma Watson, Channing Tatum, Michael Cera, Christoper Mintz-Plasse and Rihanna.
(All star as fictional characters of themselves)

The Review

This horror comedy is hilariously good. The comedic horrors encountered within the film make you laugh so hard, you can't breathe. With an all star cast, who can complain? With a smart and funny script, amazing CGI and just a bizarre story, the film was a major success. All cast members star as fictional characters of themselves, set in Los Angeles at James Franco's new (and very expensive) technology en-fulled house. During a roaring and out of control party, an apocalypse breaks out and most of the party members die, including a few big stars, which was quite disappointing. Although some of these big stars died, the cast that did survive pulled it off to give us a funny experience, and to make the worst thing possible turn into one of the most funniest and craziest scenarios ever.

The film receive mostly positive reviews, which I definitely agree with. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have had ideas for a sequal, which is set at the movie premier of This Is The End, breaking out into an apocalypse. No real public announcement has been made.

I felt that this insane film was brilliantly funny, well scripted, well directed and of course, the cast's acting was exceptional. (All of them being big stars, what can you expect?) Some scenes are just so grotesque that they make you cringe, but in a good way. Because of the huge success in theaters, the film will be re-released in cinemas on September 6th 2013.

In Conclusion, the film is a massive success. All the actors did amazing, and it's one of the best films of 2013 so far. Bring on a sequal!

Jack the Giant Slayer - A Great Success

Jack the Giant Slayer movie review

A movie review by Leah Delgado

Movie info

A remake of one of the most told and infamous fairytales known to man, makes it's way to the big screen. Jack, a poor farm boy in desperate need of money sets out to the kingdom hoping to sell his horse. There he meets a monk who trades him ancient beans, claiming they are worth more than Jack could imagine in return for his horse. Reluctant, he takes the beans and the monk whisks away quickly. Jack's uncle, furiously throws the beans and one of them slip through a crack in the floor. On a dark and rainy night, water seeps through the floor and the bean cracks open, and a large beanstalk grows rapidly, taking his house up with it. When he reaches the top, a large unknown floating island sits, waiting for it's guests to uncover the mystery.

Cast

Eleanor Tomlinson - Princess Isabelle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleanor_Tomlinson
Stanley Tucci - Lord Roderick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanley_Tucci
Ian McShane - King Brahmwell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_McShane
Bill Nighy and John Kassir - Fallon, the two headed giant http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Nighy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kassir

The Review

If you enjoy medieval fantasy epics, such as the award winning Lord Of The Rings, or even playing the Elder Scrolls franchise, then this is the film for you. The film is purely based on the ever so famous fairytale; Jack And The Beanstalk, although a few changes have occurred. There is no chicken that lays golden eggs, but Jack does discover a jewel shaped as an egg. There is also a magical crown that controls the giants, making them slaves to whoever wears it. I felt these little addons worked exceptionally well with the film, and made it into an epic battle between man and giant. The graphics are amazing, the CGI is phenomenal and the acting is also brilliant. Nicholas Hoult (from Skins and Warm Bodies) never disappoints us. Eleanor Tomlinson (Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging) also plays her role exceptionally well as the graceful and beautiful princess. Brian Singer transforms this traditional tale into a new, fresh look, which in my opinion, he has done excellently.

Although this may not be everyone's cup of tea, you can't fault the way the story is shown in this new light. It brings excitement, drama and leaving you in awe for days. It's fun filled adventure for all the family, and very enjoyable to watch.

The film did flop quite terribly at the box office, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not worth it to watch. It's a great film that deserved more than it got. The film came out for DVD and Blu Ray release on June 18th 2013.

In conclusion, I thought the film was a huge success in my eyes (even if it didn't do so well at the box office) and it's definitely one to watch if you've never seen it. I will post some ads below for a DVD website that delivers films straight to your computer.

Oz The Great and Powerful - A Moderate Success

Oz The Great and Powerful

A movie review by Leah Delgado

Movie Info

A prequal to the 1939 classic "The Wizard Of Oz" shows how the almighty Oz came to how he is known today, and how the Wicked Witch of the East, and the Wicked Witch of the West formed. A family fun film packed with magic and laughter.

Cast

James Franco - Oscar "Oz" Diggs
Mila Kunis - Theodora
Rachel Weisz - Evanora
Michelle Williams - Glinda
Zach Braff - Finley
Joey King - China Girl

The Review

Ever wondered where The Wonderful Wizard of Oz came from? The fraudulent little man behind the curtain? Well here's your chance. James Franco stars in this light hearted family film, alongside Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff (you know, the guy from Scrubs?) Directed by Sam Raimi, the director of the original Evil Dead, and the Spider-man trilogy (so you know it''s going to be good) delivers this exceptional tale of how the great Oz became, well, the great Oz.

Although the film has no Dorothy in it, doesn't mean it's not good. At the start of the film, it's shown in black and white, to tribute the original 1939 masterpiece, and it adds that delicate touch from the original. Oz meets Annie, his love interest, and also the future Mother of Dorothy (So there is a link to her after all) but the film is set in 1905, at least 20 years before Dorothy is even born. The film is purely based on Oz's journey into becoming the Great and Powerful.

It's no doubt that James Franco is a remarkable actor. He catches his roles so brilliantly, making the audience really believe. In this particular role, he caught it spot on, his character as the fraudulent, womanizing Oscar Diggs, a failing magician blown away in a hot air balloon by a raging tornado, indefinitely captured hearts. Mila Kunis as Theodora (later becoming the Wicked Witch of The West) didn't exactly catch her role more than others did. If you're a family Guy fan, it's pretty strange seeing Meg turn into an ugly witch, screaming orders to baboons and cackling menacingly. Her voice is very sweet and innocent. In my personal opinion her voice was not "witchy" enough. It sounded too herself and not very evil. Apart from the cackling. She did that well. Rachel Weisz as the always evil Wicked Witch of the East definitely did it like a pro. She looked evil, she sounded evil, and she seemed evil right from the beginning we saw her. And not forgetting Finley; the flying monkey portrayed by Zach Braff. He's lovable, kind and just all around cute! Can't we have one?

In conclusion, The Great And Powerful Oz is a great film. In certain scenes the CGI isn't terrific, Mila Kunis doesn't do evil, and James Franco has impressed us once again. But in all honesty, to see as a family is a real treat. 3/5 stars.

The Cabin In The Woods - A Commercial Success

The Cabin In The Woods.

A movie review by Leah Delgado.

Movie Info

Five friends venture out to a remote cabin in the woods. This movie brings excitement and tension, leaving you hanging off the edge of your seat. Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard bring you Cabin In The Woods, a fresh look on modern horror.

Cast:

Kristen Connolly - Dana
Chris Hemsworth - Curt
Anna Hutchison - Jules
Fran Kranz - Marty
Jesse Williams - Holden
Richard Jenkins - Sitterson
Bradley Whitford - Hadley

The Review

The Cabin In the woods is an exhilarating, fresh new look on your modern slasher. It's unpredictable, jumpy and it definitely messes with your head. Although the film seems very stereotypical, it also has a new, never-seen-before aura. With the strange office workers watching the teens' every move, and literally luring them to their death, it was like a fresh of breath air. A new look on the boring slop we usually see.

I personally felt the film has done it's justice, I was drawn in (and jumped a few times too) and would definitely go to see a sequal. It was dark, mysterious and extremely gory. It also had a comedic side, some office banter, betting and the predictable pot smoker, who, not actually understanding what's happening, seems to be the most intelligent one in the group. Some scenes may make you feel a bit queasy, some make you laugh and some may just make you want to scream "run!!" at your TV. It's brilliant, scary, funny and an absolute heart racer.

Kristen Connolly portrays her role flawlessly. With brilliant acting, and a fantastic fight scene, this might have just been her big break she was hoping for. Her role as Dana, the innocent girl who never takes risks, who is just getting over her sordid affair with her high school teacher really catches the audiences eye and brings emotion. And not forgetting Chris Hemsworth, playing as Curt the typical high school jock who's girlfriend is the popular blonde, who's seems very upfront and confident. Both Hemsworth and Hutchison play the characters beautifully, and may just get away with the fact that they both look a little too old to be playing high school students. Fran Kranz - who play's Marty has to be the steal of the film. His wit and charms just make you smile. He's funny, smart, and knows how to get out of a bad situation, eventually saving the day.

In conclusion, The Cabin In The Woods is a huge success. It has a brilliant storyline, fantastic acting, and a killer ending. Definitely recommended.
